Three-Tiered Credit Approval System
One factor that is important to remember when applying for Citi® credit cards is that many of their offers have a three-tiered system for determining which APR you qualify for. Applicants with "excellent" credit can qualify for the lowest APR's that Citi® offers. If your credit worthiness doesn't qualify you for the top tier, you can still apply and possibly receive a second or third tier APR. This is why you will see many credit card offers from Citi® listed with "as low as" next to the APR shown.
In addition, some offers will display an introductory rate with the words "up to" next to a certain number of months. Only qualified Tier 1 cardholders will receive the maximum amount of months shown for their introductory period. Tier 2 and Tier 3 cardholders may receive a shorter introductory period. So, even if you don't have "excellent" credit, you might still qualify for the credit card you want at the Tier 2 or 3 level and enjoy the many benefits of being a Citi® cardholder.
