Keeping Your 0% Interest Credit Cards In Good Standing
If you plan on applying for a credit card with a 0% APR, then you'll need to be extra careful about making your minimum payments on time each month. Many credit cards with a 0% introductory offer will stipulate in their terms and conditions that your introductory interest rate will end prematurely if you fail to make payments on time. To avoid unexpected interest charges, you should do the following:
- Always pay at least the minimum balance due
- Create a system to remind yourself of your due dates
- Look into setting up automatic monthly payments
- Double check each payment to ensure it went through
- Make record of when the introductory offer ends
The months can pass by quickly, so make yourself aware of when the 0% interest period is over. If your plan is to pay the card off before any interest is charged, then do whatever you can to setup a reminder of when the zero APR ends.
Everyone makes mistakes, and it's so easy to overlook a due date or forget to set up automatic payments. However, when you are charging thousands of dollars onto your new 0% APR credit cards, you'll want to be very diligent about paying your bill on time. Missing a payment and being hit with interest on a very large balance can be a costly mistake, but one that can be easily avoided.
As soon as you get your new zero percent interest card, make a note of your billing cycle and due date. Then keep a very close eye on all your credit card bills and make sure those payments are going through on time. Not only will you keep your credit score high, but you'll also get to enjoy the full duration of your introductory offer, with no interest due.
